Petition Signatures
The first step towards being on the ballot
I need your help collecting signatures to put me (Sanford) on the ballot in the Democratic primary.
There are two ways to do this:
Take a petition and keep it and ask 10 people to sign it.
Come to a weekend event when we’ll go canvassing door-to-door.
If you take a petition:
Your word supporting me is what will convince other people to sign – so I recommend getting signatures from people who know and trust you.
You must witness the signatures personally. There are 10 spaces per sheet.
Their signatures only support putting me on the ballot; it’s not a commitment to vote for me.
This process will start after August 5 and go through October. You can have the paper for several days.
At the end of the time, you’ll sign in front of a notary that you witnessed all of the signatures.
If you go canvassing:
Using a voter database, we’ll target supportive Democrats in a single area, then knock on their doors.
You will be provided with a list of houses in one area to visit and ask them to sign the petition for me (Sanford) and other Democrats.
You will likely be doing this with other people. (Unless you prefer not to.)
This would be on weekends generally.
You can volunteer once or do it multiple times.
The timeline starts on August 5, and we hope to be done by the end of September.
There will be training! There are training sessions on July 26 and July 27 (Sat & Sun) in the afternoons at the Champaign Public Library.
Canvassing is more fun than it sounds! It’s inspirational to talk to Democrats about how we can make a difference right here at home, by supporting local candidates.
